Overview:
This position is responsible for leading the local survey department, managing all aspects of its operations, and ensuring high-quality deliverables. This role maintains and grows client relationships, ensures compliance with regulations, and oversees departmental processes, training, and performance. The Survey Department Manager plays a strategic role in developing the department's capabilities while fostering a collaborative team environment.
Responsibilities:
• Plan, direct, and coordinate the work of the local survey department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
• Maintain and strengthen client relationships while identifying and acquiring new clients and projects.
• Provide guidance and direction to Survey Project Managers, Project Surveyors, and Survey Technicians.
• Ensure compliance with state-specific rules and regulations governing professional land surveying.
• Prepare detailed proposals, including project scopes, budgets, and timelines.
• Oversee project budgets and client invoicing, ensuring financial goals are met.
• Review and approve the quality of drawings, legal descriptions, and other deliverables prepared by the team.
• Sign and seal completed drawings, legal descriptions, and surveyor’s reports in accordance with professional standards.
• Adhere to and enforce corporate QA/QC guidelines and principles.
• Manage, train, and mentor department members, supporting their professional growth and technical development.
• Resolve complex survey issues and provide solutions for challenging projects.
• Develop and implement departmental processes and initiatives to improve efficiency, accuracy, and client satisfaction.
Qualifications:
• Registered as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in the state of employment.
• Minimum of 15 years as a licensed surveyor.
• At least 5 years of previous supervisory experience, leading and developing survey teams.
• Strong ability to prioritize tasks and make strategic decisions independently in a fast-paced production environment.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, staff, and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage performance, provide feedback, and handle personnel matters effectively.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
• Dependable, reliable, and capable of overseeing multiple projects and operations simultaneously.
• Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills for handling complex issues and challenges.
• Ability to work Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm with overtime as needed.
