Offered Position: Database Engineer III Job Location: Dallas, Texas Job Number: AMZ9948584 Position Responsibilities: Work closely with customers to understand their challenges, solve issues during critical escalations, and teach best practices. Act as the “voice of the customer”, bring learnings to the engineering process to design new features and plan end-to-end test scenarios. By shaping the direction of the RDS service, make it easier to understand how service is used by customers, including database developers and administrators. Actively drive feature enhancements, permanently resolve the root causes of issues, and improve the performance of our managed database service. Viewed as the ultimate subject matter expertise for all things databases as work will be highly sought by the development team, the support team, the account team and customers directly. Interact with the open-source community via forums, conferences and feature or bug-fix code submissions. Extend knowledge to other database engines and not limited to PostgreSQL. Design and code solutions to help our team drive efficiencies in software architecture, create metrics, implement automation and other improvements, and resolve the root cause of software defects. Build high-impact solutions to deliver to our large customer base. Participate in design discussions, code review, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Work cross-functionally to help drive business decisions with technical input. Position Requirements: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field and eight years of post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Must have five years of experience in the following skills: (1) building and maintaining complex mission-critical production database systems, such as Postgres, Oracle, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server; (2) working directly with customers, resolving database, systems and infrastructure-related issues and also providing systems architecture leadership; (3) experience with customer workloads and use cases, including performance, availability and scalability; (4) experience with relational database internals (locking, consistency, serialization, and recovery paths); (5) experience with at least one scripting language (Shell, Python, or Perl); and (6) coding skills in the procedural language for at least one database engine (PL/SQL, T-SQL, or related). Must have three years of experience in the following skills: (7) designing and maintaining PostgreSQL relational databases; and (8) experience with at least one application programming language (Java, C#, C, C++, or Go).
