Education: College/CEGEP. Work setting: Office building. Tasks: Read blueprints to determine dimensions of structure or system and material requirements. Assist in developing engineering specifications and drawings. Participate in field surveys, inspections or technical investigations. Prepare construction specifications, costs and material estimates. Prepare engineering designs and drawings. Prepare project schedules. Supervise or conduct field surveys, inspections, technical investigations and testing of construction materials. Provide consultation services to government and other organizations. Inspect subcontractors work to ensure quality and conformity with plans and specifications. Inspect or test structures and equipment for deterioration, defects or failure to comply with specifications or regulations. Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports. Documentation knowledge: Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip). Testing equipment and methods: Visual inspection. Civil engineering experience: Buildings and structures.
