Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Work setting: Commercial. Industrial. Residential. Tasks: Determine type of glass, frames and material required. Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements . Measure, mark and cut glass. Position and secure panes in frame. Assemble and install prefabricated glass, mirrors or glass products. Install door, window and other hardware. Prepare shop drawings. Repair glass doors and other glass structures. Assemble, erect and dismantle scaffolding, rigging and hoisting equipment. Supervise other workers. Transport cases of glass. Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages. Type of glass/materials: Float glass. Mirrors. Sealed units. Frame fabrication and installation: Curtain wall (stock length material). Curtain wall (prefabricated material). Spandrel panel installations. Aluminum framing members. Glass cutting equipment and techniques: Cutting wheels. Computerized cutters. Cut glass plate manually (straight cuts). Cut glass plate free-hand (curved cuts). Etch glass. Sandblast decal designs on glass. Temper glass. Tint glass. Installation specialization: Curtain walls. Stained glass installations. Aluminum storefronts, barrel vaults, solariums, commercial window systems. Shower doors and tub enclosures. Display cases. Walls and other interior areas (i.e. partitions). Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Handling heavy loads. Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots.
