The Environmental Science and Climate Change Division is responsible for the environmental review of major projects, monitoring the air and water resources of New Brunswick, addressing climate change mitigation and adaptation, policy direction and legislative agenda development for the department. It provides scientific assessment and environmental protection advice and reports on the state of the environment, leads initiatives promoting the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the adaptation to impacts of climate change, develops programs and policies, and provides technical, scientific and engineering support. This includes interpreting, evaluating and maintaining awareness of research and developments in environmental health and climate issues and initiatives on behalf of the department. As a member of the Strategic Initiatives Branch, you will support, and sometimes lead, departmental initiatives which include project management, engagement, and legislative components. Your primary responsibilities will include:Developing sound public policy;Formulating new concepts in legislation,Conducting senior level research, analysis, and cross-jurisdictional reviews,Conducting inter-departmental and stakeholder engagement,Developing and presenting proposals and briefings to various levels of government and stakeholders,Leading, or representing the Department on, working groups supporting departmental or governmental priorities,Coordinating and tracking project work, andLiaising with government agencies and stakeholders.Who you are?You are open to new challenges, solution-oriented and able to work within a team. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:Essential qualificationsA Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Science, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, Community Planning, or a related field and a minimum of six (6) years of related work experience, including direct policy development experience.ORA Law degree and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience, including direct policy development experience.An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.Written and spoken competence in English is required.
