Correctional Officers I (CX-01) are essential to fulfilling the CSC's mission of enhancing public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure, and humane control.Correctional Officers maintain the safety and security of federal penitentiaries. They: ¿Maintain safety and security of federal institutions ¿Supervise and interact with offenders¿Watch for indicators of risk to the safety of people and the institution ¿Implement security measures when necessary Institutions operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Correctional Officers (COs) must be able to work shifts, variable hours, weekends and statutory holidays. COs may be required to work overtime.
