Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Nautical science/merchant marine officer. Work site environment: In/on water. Work setting: Moving cargo. Marine. Gas distribution company. Tasks: Command and operate ships or vessels to transport passengers and cargo. Supervise and co-ordinate activities of deck crews. Ensure safety and comfort of passengers. Determine geographical position using navigational instruments, maps and charts. Direct and oversee the loading and unloading of cargo. Maintain vessel's navigational instruments and equipment. Control, steer and navigate a vessel in various waterways. Enforce regulations in Canadian waters. Record vessel's progress, weather and sea conditions in ship's log. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Transport Canada Certificate of Competency. Transport Canada Security Awareness Training for All Seafarers. Marine Advanced First Aid. Marine Emergency Duty (MED) Training Program. Field work location experience: Offshore or at sea. Vessel experience: Tank vessel.
