Job Description Job Title: Group Health Account Executive Department: Insurance FLSA: Exempt General Function: This position is responsible for generating new business growth by actively prospecting and selling group medical insurance plans, along with ancillary and elective benefits, to small and mid-sized employers. The ideal candidate is a proactive, results-driven professional with a proven ability to develop sales pipelines, close deals, and deliver tailored employee benefits solutions. Reporting Relations: Accountable and Reports to: Director, Business Development Positions that Report to you: None Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prospect, develop, and close new business opportunities with employers (typically 2–500 employees) • Sell and position group medical plans alongside ancillary products such as dental, vision, life, disability, and voluntary benefits • Conduct needs analysis to design customized benefits packages that align with employer goals and budgets • Build and maintain a strong pipeline through networking, referrals, cold outreach, and community involvement • Develop relationships with decision-makers including HR leaders, CFOs, and business owners • Collaborate with internal account management and service teams to ensure smooth onboarding and ongoing client satisfaction • Provide renewal support for assigned book of business, proactively identifying opportunities to retain clients and expand coverage • Stay current on market trends, carrier offerings, compliance updates, and competitive positioning • Meet or exceed monthly and annual sales targets • Maintain accurate activity and pipeline tracking in Salesforce CRM system
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
• Experience selling group medical or employee benefits packages • Established network of business contacts or centers of influence • Familiarity with level-funded and self-funded plan structures • Understanding of compliance requirements (e.g., ACA, ERISA) • Commitment to the Midwest Heritage mission and willingness to promote the values of the organization. • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines. • Proficient computer skills. Microsoft Office preferred (Outlook, Power Point, Excel and Word.) • Good verbal and written communication skills. • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate to and interact with people in a friendly, professional manner. • Strong detail orientation including the ability to review forms for accuracy and completeness.
Education and Experience:
• 2+ years of sales experience (insurance or employee benefits experience strongly preferred) • Active Health & Life insurance license (or ability to obtain within a month) • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills • Self-motivated with a high level of accountability and discipline • Ability to simplify complex benefit concepts for clients • Experience using CRM tools and sales tracking systems
Physical Requirements:
• This position is classified sedentary/light and requires the ability to sit for long periods of time. • Visual requirements include: ability to see detail at near range with or without correction. • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: sitting for long periods, talking (in person and by telephone), hearing and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions:
• The duties of this position are normally performed in a general office setting. Local travel is common for client prospecting and meetings, with occasional regional or overnight travel required. This is a fast-paced, target-driven work environment with sales quotas and renewal deadlines. • There is frequent pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects in a day.
