About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer in Health Psychology (Education) to join the Department of Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London (KCL). The post holder will contribute specialist health psychology teaching on our BPS accredited MSc (Health Psychology) and BSc (Psychology) programmes.

The appointment will be made on the Academic Education Pathway, where the primary contribution is to education (80% of role) and secondary contribution to scholarship which is primarily education-focused (20%). On average, this would be the equivalent of four days a week spent on education. The AEP contract is focused on the delivery of education, education-related scholarship, and leadership in education. The following expectations are associated with the AEP: teaching, supervision, student support, educational leadership and innovation, education-related research and administration. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated colleague who can make a distinctive contribution to health psychology education and supervision across our accredited MSc in Health Psychology and BSc Psychology programmes. You should have excellent teaching and communication skills and be able to inspire and inform students.

As post holder, you will provide educational leadership on our MSc in Health Psychology. This would include programme and/or module leadership, course delivery, assessment, research project supervision, and personal tutor roles. You may also support other undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses within the school and faculty, and across King’s, for example with project supervision. You should be able to demonstrate suitable teaching skills and experience including curriculum development and assessment design, along with an ability to supervise student research dissertations.

The scholarship component of the role should not exceed 20% and is expected to be substantially education focused. Therefore, your research should either be in a pedagogical area or one that impacts on the student experience and/or leads to evidence-based teaching. The content of a member of staff’s workload will be decided in discussion with the Head of Department or Deputy Head (Health).

This is a full-time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

PhD in Health Psychology Experience of designing and delivering excellent teaching and assessment for postgraduate and/or undergraduate students, in person and/or online. Experience of supervising postgraduate taught and undergraduate research projects. Experience of delivering health psychology teaching to postgraduate and/or undergraduate students. Skills in research design, including quantitative and/or qualitative research methods relevant for health psychology Ability to conduct high quality education-focused research evidenced, for example, by high-quality publications, presentation of research in national and/or international fora.

Desirable criteria

Higher Education accreditation/qualification (e.g. Advance HE Fellowship or PGCAPHE) BPS Stage 2 qualification in Health Psychology Experience of PGT module leadership (i.e. MSc in Health Psychology or similar programme)
