About this role
Software Engineering Manager – Marketing Technology (MarTech)
The Software Engineering Manager, Marketing Technology is responsible for building and leading a diverse team of engineers, analysts, and QA professionals accountable for delivering marketing technology capabilities in partnership with Marketing, CRM, Digital, and E-Commerce stakeholders. This role is accountable for developing and executing the MarTech strategy — including implementation of marketing platforms, tag management, and Customer Data Platform (CDP) architecture — to drive consumer growth and engagement across email, SMS, and digital channels. The manager leads a unique, cross-functional team spanning platform engineering, marketing analytics, and B2B marketing systems, and is responsible for the growth and development of team members, aligning individual interests, performance, and potential with organizational needs and goals. This role champions adoption of DevOps and cloud QA practices to improve reliability, efficiency, and confidence of software delivery, and serves as the organization's go-to marketing technology expert — advising business stakeholders on platform capabilities, data strategy, and emerging AI-driven marketing tools. This role partners with external software vendors, where applicable, to integrate seamlessly and drive value for the company.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
• Lead the implementation and ongoing optimization of marketing platforms (e.g., Braze, Zeta Marketing Platform, Iterable, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, or similar) to power personalized, omnichannel consumer experiences. • Own the tag management and CDP strategy, ensuring behavioral, consent, and identity data flows cleanly into downstream marketing and analytics platforms; partner with privacy and security teams on GDPR/CCPA/CPRA compliance. • Build out the team's AI strategy for Marketing — identifying opportunities to apply AI/ML for audience segmentation, content personalization, predictive targeting, and campaign optimization, and leading proof-of-concept work through to production. • Partner with business stakeholders to inform prioritization, identify dependencies, and influence the roadmap, ensuring non-functional requirements are represented and help drive technical decisions. • Provide data and insights to inform roadmap decisions — performance and impact data relevant to digital and marketing initiatives — helping define and track KPIs that measure value from MarTech investments, and evaluating outcomes to inform iteration, scale, or sunset decisions. • Encourage shared ownership of the team's backlog across engineers, and proactively advance the team's technical roadmap; work with leadership to raise visibility to and help resolve organizational impediments. • Ways of Working: Build and foster adoption of technical delivery best practices. Choose the right delivery model (waterfall, single release, continuous delivery) with appropriate milestones and early testing. Participate in team ceremonies as needed. • Champion cloud QA practices and automated testing across marketing technology products to ensure reliability and speed of delivery. • Drive collaboration through practices such as pair programming, and lead the team through implementation of new practices identified via continuous improvement goals. • Architecture & Design: Partner with Architecture to define and adopt enterprise best practices, frameworks, standards, and patterns for the MarTech stack, including Salesforce Commerce Platform integrations, API-first, and event-driven patterns. Maintain logical and physical architecture documentation for owned systems. • Management/Team Development: Build and lead a diverse marketing engineering team — including hiring, training, retention, and career development. Manage unique, cross-functional pods spanning consumer growth platform engineering and B2B marketing systems. Foster individual development through regular goal setting, coaching, and feedback. • Vendor Engagement: In partnership with senior management, engage established MarTech and CDP vendors on implementations, modernization, and capability improvements. Influence vendor roadmaps and perform technical evaluations of new marketing technology solutions. • Financial: Adhere to budget guidelines, ensure vendors and contractors deliver in a fiscally responsible manner, and provide inputs for cost center management. Identify cost-saving opportunities aligned with strategic MarTech goals.
YOU HAVE
