Summary Job Description: Registered Nurse - SANE
PRN Shift Varies
A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner is a Registered Nurse with advanced education.
• Performs comprehensive forensic examination of all reported assault patients to include Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, Elder Abuse etc. of patients aged 14 years and older.
• A nurse examiner conducts the examination, collects, and preserves evidence, and testifies in legal proceedings.
• The SANE nurse is knowledgeable in the nursing process and its application to the Forensic Nursing Specialty.
• A thorough and detailed exam is performed while restoring dignity to the patient, by providing compassionate and comprehensive care, teaching, and information for follow up care.
Requirements:
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ADN) degree from an accredited institution.
• Current unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Kentucky required.
• One year of relevant job-related experience required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire.
• SANE license required in the state of Kentucky; this includes completing the SANE class and 60 hours of training to be completed within 6 months of course.
• Mandatory nonviolent crisis prevention training to be completed prior to end of orientation period and maintained annually.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Minimum of two years clinical experience in any of the following areas: Emergency, Intensive Care, Pediatric, Maternal Child, Psychiatric and/or Forensic Nursing.
• Preferred experience in Domestic Violence training.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited institution.
