About this role
Job summary
Working under the direct supervision of the practice nursing team and in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
Main duties of the job
Obtain patients consent for the collection of a blood sample Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols Maintaining accurate patient records Correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner Maintaining an effective liaison with laboratory staff
BP, pulse, pulse oximetry and temperature readings
Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring
Urinalysis
New patient checks
Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
ECG recording
B12 Injections
Flu, Pneumonia and Shingles injections (Training will be provided if necessary)
Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
Spirometry (Training will be provided if necessary)
Ear irrigation (Training will be given if necessary)
Chaperoning duties
Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Experience Essential
Experience of working within a nursing team Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients

Qualifications Essential
