About this role

Job summary

To provide bereavement support and counselling to adults and children referred to Nightingale House Hospice.

To hold and manage a caseload of clients/patients/families with bereavement needs.

To work closely with the Family Support Lead and Patient Flow Coordinator ensuring timely and sensitive communication.

Main duties of the job

To work as a full member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, providing a preparation for loss and bereavement service to Adults, Children, and carers.

Provide bereavement support and counselling to clients who access the service, in the community and within the hospice, who are individuals, families or through group support techniques, and involving other members of the multi-disciplinary team as appropriate to do so.

To work with patients using individual, group or family techniques and involving other members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team as appropriate.

Supervision of counsellors, student counsellors and bereavement volunteers.

Responsibility to triage and manage bereavement referrals, including managing telephone advice, ensuring that appropriate information and support is offered, following service protocol.

Assessing individual needs of the bereaved and refer for internal counselling support or to external agencies when appropriate.

Jointly managing service evaluation tools, statistics, audit within the service and provide regular reports.

Communicating frequently within the service and to other service providers regarding patient care and share development policies ensuring best practice.

Manage caseload of clients, including the assessment and allocation to volunteers/students within the service and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible.

Educate and involve family members when appropriate, conveying counselling formulations.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Advanced Diploma in Counselling Registered Therapist Member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy or appropriate Association.

Skills Essential

High level of computer literacy. Time management skills Ability to work creatively, flexibly and as part of a team Sound written and oral communication skills Ability to adapt to and contribute to a changing environment

Experience Essential

Good level of experience working with both children and adults. Experience of working with loss and bereavement

Knowledge Essential

Understanding of general office systems and procedures Knowledge of data protection regulations Knowledge of Safeguarding
