Job summary This is an exciting front of house role on the Paediatric Ward at Yeovil Hospital, working closely with clinical colleagues to ensure our patients receive the highest standard of care.The role requires someone who has a great level of attention to detail and good organisational skills for managing in a busy environment. Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential for dealing with colleagues, patients and families.The needs of the service user will be the utmost priority. The principle of high quality customer care is at the heart of this role.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be the first point of contact on the Paediatric Ward for patients, families and staff.
The post holder will be required to admit/discharge and transfer patients live on our in-house database, answer telephone enquiries, book transport, order equipment, collate and prepare patient case notes for elective lists and ensure files for inpatients are available for members of the MDT and ward rounds.The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the reception area is tidy & well organised and that office supplies and stationery are ordered and kept stocked up.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Good Standard of education, GCSEs or equivalent.
Desirable
ECDL or equivalent. NVQ/QCF or equivalent.
Experience Essential
Proven administrative experience. Proven experience of providing a busy customer focused service. Confident keyboard skills. Experience using the telephone in a professional setting. Knowledge of MS office.
Desirable
Previous NHS experience. Knowledge of electronic hospital systems.
Additional Criteria Essential
Empathy, care, compassion and understanding to service users & families. Exceptional listening skills. Self motivated. Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions. Effective communication skills. Ability to work within a multi disciplinary team. Ability to demonstrate a good standard of English Language. Excellent telephone skills. A calm professional manner. Use own initiative to plan, organise and prioritise own workload. Ability to spend periods sitting and using VDU equipment.
