About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for this band 6 Specialist BMS role in the Haematology &Transfusion Lab within the Hammersmith Hospital site of NWLP.

In this role, you would encounter a wide range of interesting cases daily; you would be part of the BMS team reporting on blood film morphology for a wide range of conditions. In our Blood Transfusion Department, you would be fully engaged with special requirement crossmatching to support our busy Clinical Haematology Unit. In Special Coagulation centralised on this site, you would be carrying out very specialist haemostasis analyses.

As an added responsibility, you would be the Department's Health and Safety Co-ordinator- Training would be provided for this additional task.The laboratory also operates a 24-hour-seven- day -a-week service and therefore full participation on the roster is required for all contractual Weekend (2-3 of these shifts per six-week rota) and Late evening shifts (2-3 of these per week).

It is an essential requirement that applicants are HCPC state registered with a significant post registration experience in an ISO 15189 accredited laboratory.

Main duties of the job

Collaborate with colleagues to enhance service quality and uphold departmentalstandards, while monitoring staff performance. Actively participate in local and divisional laboratory meetings, contributing to serviceexcellence and operational efficiency, and fostering professional relationships for effective collaboration. Stay informed on departmental changes and developments and communicate complexinformation clearly to staff. Provide and receive complex information to colleagues and external contacts, offering advice and explanations as needed. Ensure timely reporting of incidents following NWLP Health and Safety procedures. Achieve proficiency in designated diagnostic areas to provide high-quality laboratoryservices to patients and staff. Perform tasks autonomously, making informed decisions while consulting senior ormedical staff as needed.

NWLP Induction

The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

Education Essential

Biomedical Science degree or equivalent which is acceptable by the IBMS /HPC for registration HCPC Registration and clear understanding of Code of Conduct and Professional Standards of the HCPC IBMS Specialist Diploma or demonstrate the equivalent depth and breadth of knowledge in the relevant discipline evidenced by competency documents or equivalent Actively involved in Continuing Professional Development

Skills Essential
