Job SummaryThis National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST, Position Description Number D1254000 and is part of the SMMO, New Jersey Army National Guard. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

QualificationsGENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have the following experience(s): Knowledge of equipment maintenance work, or skill in reading engineering drawings Using specifications and test instruments Making computations, and keeping records Using computer and automation systems SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 24 months of the following experience(s): Applying principles, concepts, and methods of equipment, facilities, or service operations Designing projects or planning assignments Using well-established occupational methods and techniques to determine facility, grounds, equipment overhaul, maintenance, restoration, repair needs, etc.

Major DutiesAs a SURFACE MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST, GS-1601-9, you will: Analyzes and resolves a variety of conventional maintenance management problems to improve existing maintenance operations, production, and practices that impact the overall maintenance program. Establishes methods and procedures to ensure maintenance tasks performed meet or exceed established policies and regulations Establishes and monitors the shop safety and health program Monitors the organization's use of automation to properly account for manpower utilization and materials management Perform other Duties as AssignedRequirementsAreas of Consideration: CAT 3: All current members of the New Jersey Army National Guard Additional Employment Requirements: -Participation in direct deposit is mandatory -May be required to successfully complete a probationary period -Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation -Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service You may be required to successfully complete a 1- or 2- year probation/trial period to assess performance, conduct, agency needs, public interest, and efficiency. Employment ends unless certified in writing that it advances the agencies interest. : Military Grade: Min: SPC/E-4 and Max: CW2/W2 Applicant(s) (Enlisted) who are over grade must clearly state, in their resumes, their intentions to willingly take a reduction in grade Compatible Military Assignments Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a *military unit* compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position. *Military Unit* -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support.
