About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist to join our functional and dementia inpatient wards across Durham, Darlington and Tees Valley as part of Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP). Supervised by a Clinical Psychologist, the successful candidate will work alongside supportive, innovative and collaborative multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high quality and timely evidence-based care to people receiving inpatient care.

Applicants must have a degree in Psychology and be eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be involved in supporting the provision of psychologically informed care and psychological interventions through direct and indirect clinical activities. This will include attendance at multidisciplinary meetings, contribution to psychological assessment and formulation, developing behaviour support plans, non-pharmacological interventions, groups and evaluation of outcomes. We have a commitment to staff development and have an excellent track record for developing our psychology workforce. Successful candidates will have good communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate empathy towards our client group. We are keen to hear from candidates with a passion for working with older adults, and an understanding of trauma informed and personalised care.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Degree in psychology. Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

Experience Essential

Some experience of people using services in psychological, mental health and/or social care settings. This may include, for example, personal experience or supporting a family member to access services. Experience in discussing and responding to issues related to cultural diversity, intersectionality and inclusivity, including working with vulnerable groups (e.g. those for whom English is not their first language).

Desirable

Post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
