Main duties of the job
As a senior member of the public health leadership team, you will:
Provide high-quality expert advice across the Council and the Integrated Care System Work closely with elected Members, senior officers and partners Lead strategic programmes to reduce inequalities and improve outcomes Oversee evidence, intelligence, JSNA development and priority setting Contribute to health protection, emergency response and resilience functions Support workforce development, training and educational supervision Deputise for the Director of Public Health as required

Post 1: Consultant in Public Health Children, Young People & Maternity
This role leads Cornwalls Best Start in Life agenda, providing strategic leadership across:
Maternity and early years Health Visiting, School Nursing and Family Nurse Partnership Childrens emotional health and wellbeing Oral health improvement Child health intelligence, outcomes and inequalities You will work closely with the ICS, education, early years services, safeguarding partners, and communities to embed prevention, improve outcomes and ensure high-quality, equitable services for children and families.
Post 2: Consultant in Public Health Wider Determinants, Housing, Planning & Healthy Weight
This role leads on the wider determinants of health, working across the Council and ICS to influence major system levers including:
Housing, planning and transport Economic inclusion and community resilience Climate change and environmental sustainability Healthy Weight strategy and population-level prevention Fuel poverty, air quality and built environment health impacts You will be a senior advocate for healthinallpolicies and a key leader in shaping a carbonneutral, equitable Cornwall.
About you
We are seeking dynamic, collaborative and strategic public health consultants who can navigate complexity, influence at the highest level, and deliver measurable population health impact.
You must be:
Included on the GMC Specialist Register, GDC Specialist List (Dental PH) or UKPHR Specialist Register at the point of application, OR A Public Health Specialty Registrar within 6 months of CCT at interview, with appropriate deanery evidence Uptodate with CPD in line with Faculty of Public Health requirements Experienced in delivering system leadership, partnership working, and evidencebased public health practice Skilled at communicating complex data, managing change, and influencing policy Both roles are open to medical and non-medical public health specialists, in line with FPH guidance.
